What affiliate links are

Some links on this site may be affiliate links. If you click one and then sign up for or buy a product or service, we may earn a commission from the provider or from an affiliate network acting for them. This comes at no extra cost to you: you pay the same price whether or not you use our link.

Where a page contains affiliate links, we aim to make that clear on the page itself, and the site-wide footer carries a short reminder linking back here.

Our calculator and guides are independent

Affiliate relationships never affect our calculations. The National Insurance and State Pension calculator uses published GOV.UK and HMRC rules, as explained on the methodology page, and its results are the same whether or not you click any link. Providers cannot pay to change our figures, our explanations or what we say about them.

Paying voluntary National Insurance contributions is done directly with HMRC. We do not earn anything from that, and we will always point you to the official GOV.UK services to check your record and forecast.

Information, not financial advice

We are not financial advisers and we are not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Everything on this site is general information to help you understand your options; it is not a personal recommendation or regulated financial advice. We do not know your full circumstances.

Before making a decision about your pension or investments, consider speaking to a regulated financial adviser. You can find one through Unbiased or VouchedFor, and free government-backed guidance is available from MoneyHelper and, if you are 50 or over with a defined contribution pension, Pension Wise.

Capital at risk

If we link to investment or private pension products, remember that with investing your capital is at risk. The value of investments, and the income from them, can go down as well as up, and you may get back less than you put in. Past performance is not a reliable guide to future returns. Tax treatment depends on your individual circumstances and may change in future. Money in a pension usually can't be accessed until the minimum pension age.

Before transferring or consolidating pensions, check whether you would lose valuable benefits or guarantees, or face exit fees. Always check that a firm is authorised on the FCA Register before dealing with it.
